3 Incrementally Sized Olive Trees in Plastic Origami Plant Pots by Studio Ayaskan

A potted plant will typically get through several sized containers as it grows from sapling to established specimen, and a plant not having enough space to develop a root system is one of the biggest factors in stunted growth. For this reason Studio Ayaskan designed Growth, a unique origami-inspired plant pot that can unfold and increase in volume as its plant develops.

The geometric design begins with a smooth surface in which the plastic panels are folded back over themselves. These then unfold and become more angular as the plant begins to grow, before finally becoming smooth again as the plant pot eventually reaches its maximum volume. The soil inside the container will of course also need to be topped up as the Growth plant pot expands in order to keep the ground line consistent.

The life cycle of a plant is a transformation, from an early seed to its full grown size; the blooming of a flower, the unfolding of a leaf, the branching of the roots. This process is what GROWTH aims to capture within a plant pot.Studio Ayaskan
