We previously featured the Chair One in our geometric furniture feature but this variation on the chair frame’s designed dubbed the Charlie One B fits perfectly into our concrete furniture week. This edition takes the same iconic frame but it rests on a conical concrete base as opposed to the standard four legs. The concrete plinth in this model is finished with a transparent sealant making the Chair One B suitable for outdoor use.
The Chair One B is also ideally suited to semi-public installations such as libraries and airports, partly because of their weight! The concrete base weighs 34kg so while it allows for more versatility than fixed, bolted down seating, no-one is going to be able to run off with a Chair One B. This chair is still in production and is easy to find online. They’re expensive but still somewhat affordable at £415 from Made in Design. If you really like the design of the frame and want a cheaper more practical chair, the four-legged standard model costs just £90 in plastic or £262 in aluminium.
