Geometric Walnut and Wool iPad Sleeves by Grovemade

Comparing Walnut and Maple Wood iPad Sleeves by Grovemade

Wooden technology is something of an oxymoron but Grovemade have demonstrated that such a convergence is indeed possible. They’ve made a name for themselves with their range of wooden tech accessories for Apple’s iPhones, iPads and MacBooks, as well as with their Desk Collection which we’ve taken a look at on Homeli in the past.

Grovemade have designed these elegantly simple sleeves which feature a geometrically etched, flexible walnut exterior, and a dense wool interior, that can keep your iPad or Macbook Air safe and secure. The iPads sit snuggly within the wool padding, so snugly in fact that they and are actually difficult to remove without the use of the provided leather and brass strap.

The great thing about these sleeves is that they keep your device protected in transit while still allowing you to hold the iPad in your hands when in use as it was originally intended. They’re available in either Oregon black walnut and Eastern hardrock maple, with the iPad Mini sleeve costing $79 (£50), the iPad Air for $89 (£55) and the MacBook Air sleeve at $99 (£60).

If sleeve cases aren’t your cup of tea, and you want full-time protection for your iPad, then you’re in luck as Grovemade make a pretty awesome looking iPad case with a flip cover. These are also made from solid wood, this fact emphasised by the finger joints at the corners of the case that are more traditionally found in furniture.

Sometimes the best way is the hard way. After our machines make the rough cuts, each item is sanded and filed by hand to perfect every detail.Grovemade

Some find Grovemade’s range expensive, but if you consider the natural materials used, their commitment to quality, and the US-based craftsmanship that goes into each piece, I think you’d have to be crazy to call them overpriced. Rather than hiding away the production process (as a lot of larger companies with more questionable morals and working conditions tend to do), Grovemade give us a look inside their Portland workshop where all their designs are made the hard way.
